Description

Prevent FGM is a light-curing pit and fissure sealant composite developed for preventive dental treatments. Dentists apply this material to seal deep grooves on posterior teeth where plaque and bacteria often accumulate. Consequently, the sealant creates a protective barrier that blocks food debris and microorganisms from entering vulnerable pits and fissures.

Moreover, the sealant contains ionomer filler, which improves resistance and durability after application. This filler system also allows fluoride release into the oral environment. In addition, the material can recharge fluoride from external sources and release it again over time. Therefore, the sealant helps strengthen enamel and reduce the risk of demineralization.

Another important advantage involves its excellent wettability. Because the material flows easily into narrow fissures, it adapts perfectly to complex occlusal anatomy. As a result, dentists can achieve reliable coverage of grooves and pits that are difficult to clean through regular brushing.

Furthermore, the fluoride release provides additional preventive benefits for patients with high cariogenic activity. Dentists frequently recommend Prevent for children, adolescents, and individuals who show early signs of caries risk. Consequently, sealing posterior teeth at an early stage helps maintain enamel integrity and prevents the development of occlusal caries.

Additionally, the sealant simplifies oral hygiene maintenance. By covering irregular grooves on molars and premolars, the material reduces plaque retention areas and facilitates easier cleaning. Therefore, Prevent supports long-term preventive dental care when combined with proper hygiene and routine dental visits.

Overall, this sealant provides an effective preventive solution for protecting newly erupted teeth and patients who require additional caries protection.

Key Benefits of Prevent FGM Pit and Fissure Sealant

  • Ionomer filler increases resistance and longevity of the sealant
  • Fluoride release helps prevent enamel demineralization
  • Fluoride recharge supports long-term preventive protection
  • Excellent wettability ensures adaptation to occlusal anatomy
  • Smooth surface facilitates oral hygiene maintenance

Clinical Indications

Dentists commonly use Prevent in preventive dentistry.

  • Sealing pits and fissures of posterior teeth with complex anatomy
  • Protection of newly erupted molars and premolars
  • Preventive treatment for patients with high caries risk
  • Sealant application in pediatric and adolescent dentistry

Prevent FGM Pit and Fissure Sealant Application Guide

  1. First check occlusal contacts to identify possible interference areas in the pits and fissures.

  2. Then isolate the tooth using absolute isolation whenever possible, although efficient relative isolation may also be used.

  3. Next perform prophylaxis using a rubber cup or brush to clean the occlusal surface thoroughly.

  4. After that apply 37% phosphoric acid conditioner to the enamel surface for approximately 30 seconds.

  5. Rinse thoroughly and dry the surface. The etched enamel should present a whitish opaque appearance.

  6. If contamination occurs, repeat isolation and acid etching when necessary.

  7. Attach the application tip to the Prevent syringe and apply the resin across the pits and fissures while avoiding occlusal interference areas.

  8. Light cure the sealant for 20 seconds using a curing unit with power density above 400 mW/cm².

  9. Finally check occlusion and adjust if necessary.

Maintenance Note

After sealant placement, patients should follow a preventive program that includes proper oral hygiene and dietary control. Dentists should periodically evaluate the integrity of the sealant. If deficiency occurs, clinicians should reassess caries risk before reapplying the sealant.
